The Logan County community is grappling with the tragic loss of 45-year-old Gary Blaylock, who was fatally shot during an officer-involved incident on Monday, April 6, 2026.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!According to the Arkansas State Police (ASP) Criminal Investigation Division, the incident began at approximately 10:15 a.m., when a Booneville Police Department (BPD) officer attempted to stop a Chevrolet pickup truck traveling on Arkansas State Highway 23. Blaylock did not comply and fled southbound, prompting a pursuit involving both BPD officers and ASP troopers.
Near 6883 South Highway 23, officers executed a rolling block maneuver to stop the vehicle. Authorities reported that Blaylock exited the truck while brandishing a firearm. An ASP trooper and a BPD officer discharged their weapons, striking Blaylock, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
No officers or bystanders were injured during the incident. Blaylock’s body was transported to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory to determine the official manner and cause of death.
ASP Special Agents are conducting a full investigation into the shooting. Once complete, the case file will be submitted to the Logan County Prosecutor’s Office to determine whether the use of deadly force was consistent with Arkansas law.
