A deadly early-morning shooting in Birmingham has left a young woman dead, as police continue searching for those responsible.

Incident Details

According to the Birmingham Police Department, East Precinct officers were dispatched around 1:45 a.m. on January 10 to a report of a person shot in the 800 block of Green Crest Turn, located off Crestwood Boulevard.

When officers arrived, they found a woman lying unresponsive in a driveway with a gunshot wound.

Victim Identified

Authorities have identified the victim as Mia Nickson, 21.

Emergency responders with the Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service pronounced her dead at the scene.

Preliminary Findings

Investigators say early evidence suggests Nickson was outside her home when the shooting occurred. The suspect or suspects fled immediately after the gunfire.
