Martha Hernandez and Adrian Hernandez Car Accident: 41-Year-Old Woman and 9-Year-Old Son Die After Vehicle Goes Into Canal

A mother and her young son were tragically killed in a hit-and-run crash early Monday morning in central Fresno, authorities said.

The Fresno Police Department reported the crash occurred around 2 a.m. at McKinley Avenue and Fresno Street. A 2020 Dodge Durango carrying 41-year-old Martha Hernandez and her 9-year-old son, Adrian Hernandez, went into a canal after being struck by another vehicle, which was later found abandoned at the scene.

Police said the suspect vehicle, a Honda Pilot, ran a red light before colliding with the Durango, causing it to leave the roadway and enter the canal. Martha Hernandez was pulled from the water and taken to Community Regional Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead. Several hours later, rescue crews recovered her son, Adrian, confirming both had died.

The mother and son were returning home from a family gathering in Madera when the crash occurred. Witnesses described the driver of the Honda Pilot as possibly intoxicated.
